Mayor gets hands dirty to clean up Calgary
Mayor Naheed Nenshi led the way in a city-wide clean-up on June 8th at the downtown core.  The Mayor, armed with garbage bags and rubber gloves, picked up cigarette butts and other waste during the twenty minute makeover to advocate a cleaner Calgary.

Nenshi encouraged all Calgarians to join in on the cause, as the event was not only for the beautification of the city, but also for  the creation of a united community.  “We are taking responsibility for our own streets, our own neighborhood and for our making our community better for everyone else who lives here,” he said.

The mayor placed an emphasis on the considerable amount of cigarette butts tossed on the ground, declaring that it is litter and it needs to be disposed of properly in the newly installed receptacles.

Garbage was collected by participants until a sudden down-pour of rain at the end of the twenty minutes dispersed the crowd and ended the event. Mayor Nenshi was pleased with the amount of citizenship all those in attendance demonstrated
