Design district suffers

The "Oslo" project at 12 ave and 12 st sw will be on hold for a while because the developer has filed for creditor protection.

The site is well cleaned up and safe.  However, the site fence along 12 ave needs to be moved north of the sidewalk. This will allow parking on 12 ave and pedestrian acces to the south side of the avenue.

One might assume that the City would be on this right away.  However, there's the possibility that moving the fence could be slowed because the City receives rent for developers' use of street parking and sidewalk.

Beltline Design district retailers are significantly impacted by the closed sidewalk and parking.  If a building were going up, it would be unavoidable. But now the situation should be remedied until a new owner proceeds with construction.

So, dear City and dear Receiver, please get it together and act on this ASAP. Beltline is Calgary's most vibrant urban community, and your rapid action is badly needed.
